Living in Chennai’s heat, sunscreen isn’t optional for me, it’s the one step my dermatologist has been most particular about over the years. Over time, I’ve been prescribed a few, for myself and for my son, across different skin concerns. Some I’ve stuck with for years, some I’ve swapped out, but all of them have taught me something about what actually works. Here’s my honest, tried and tested list of 5 dermatologist prescribed sunscreens Review.
1. Suncros Soft SPF 50+ PA+++
PRICE: Rs. 788 (60 ml)
This is the first sunscreen my dermatologist put me on, and it has stayed in my routine for couple of years. It las light weight lotion consistency and fragrance free. If you rush the application or use too much product, it’ll leave a white cast. But once it’s blended in well, it sits beautifully on my combination skin with zero breakouts. Suncros Soft is suitable for all ages and all skin type, so it has become a bit of a family staple at home.

2. La Shield Fisico SPF 50+ PA++++
PRICE: Rs. 750 (50 g)
Another dermatologist recommended pick, this one is built around 25% micronized zinc oxide, making it a solid choice if you lean more towards mineral sunscreens. La shield Sunscreen is sweat resistant, and works well for oily skin. Like the Suncros, this one also needs a proper massage to blend away white cast. Once absorbed, It leaves the skin with non greasy, non oily matte finish which makes it suitable for acne prone skin type. Only downside is this sunscreen becomes crumbly after some time. I am curious whether anyone has faced this issue.

3. La Shield Sports Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++
PRICE: Rs. 699 (50gm)
This one was prescribed for my son, specifically for his outdoor sports days. It’s marketed as non-greasy with 8-hour water resistance. In our experience, though, it does make his skin feel oily and sweaty rather than matte. La shield sports sunscreen also leaves a white cast and carries a fairly heavy chemical smell. Protection wise it does it’s job, but if your child (or you) is sensitive to fragrance or prefers a matte finish, this may not be the most comfortable pick for you.

4. Chosen Safescreen Tinted Sunscreen SPF 30 PA++++
PRICE: Rs.1350 (60ml)
This is my current go to sunscreen on days when I want a bit of coverage without reaching for foundation. i also like it for my indoor work days. It’s provides mild, buildable coverage. Along with SPF 30, it also protects against blue light, visible light, and IR which is rare to find in one tube.
Chosen safescreen tinted sunscreen comes in three shades and I use Buff, which matches my skin tone well. There is not noticeable white cast, oiliness, and doubles up as light coverage moisturizer. On busy mornings, this one product replaces three steps in my routine. Only downside ? it is expensive.

5. Sunmate SPF 30
PRICE: Rs. 850 (50 g)
This was prescribed to me when I had an acne episode, Sunmate sunscreen is designed for oily, acne-prone skin, and it’s a gel cream that dries down to a velvety, powdery matte finish, genuinely one of the mattest sunscreens I’ve used. It’s white in color but has no fragrance, absorbs in with a quick massage, leaves no white cast and doesn’t lead to breakouts or irritation. Sunmate sunscreen is also water resistant with solid UVA/UVB protection, which makes it great for summer or travel days. My only gripes are that it can be a little hard to find in stores, and it’s on the pricier side for the quantity you get.

What works beautifully for one person may not work for another. Your skin type, lifestyle, how much time you spend outdoors, and your specific skin concerns all matter—and your dermatologist’s recommendation should take priority.
