Top 5 Kajals for Indian Women -Tried & Tested

top 5 kajal for indian women

If there’s one makeup product I cannot live without, it’s kajal. Forget the highlighter, skip the blush but please don’t take away my kajal! Over the years, I have tried more kajals than I can count, and today I’m narrowing it down to my absolute top 5 kajals for Indian Women that I’ve personally tested and would genuinely recommend.
Whether you’re looking for the best pigmentation, something budget-friendly, or a kajal that actually survives Chennai summers. I’ve got you covered!

1. Revlon ColorStay Kajal

This one. No exaggeration  I’ve been using the Revlon ColorStay Kajal for five to six years now, and it has never let me down. The pigmentation is absolutely jet black, we’re talking intense, bold colour in a single swipe. But what really sets it apart is how well it stays put. I’ve worn it through humid Chennai days, long working hours, and it simply does not budge or smudge. For someone with oily eyelids, that’s saying a lot!

Best for: Anyone who wants zero-compromise pigmentation and all-day wear.
Downside: It’s on the pricier side for a kajal, and it needs sharpening (which does waste a bit of product).

Price: ~Rs. 900

2. Sugar Stroke of Genius Heavy Duty Kohl

Whenever the Revlon is out of stock, yes, that happens and it’s devastating- that’s when I reach straight for the Sugar Stroke of Genius Heavy Duty Kohl. It has beautiful pigmentation and is incredibly creamy, which makes it super easy to apply. The wax-based formula glides on smoothly in a single swipe, and it even comes with a free sharpener.

The one thing I’ve noticed is that it can smudge slightly, particularly during summer. But here’s my trick, set it with a little dark eyeshadow right after application and it stays in place beautifully. Once it’s locked in, it’s locked in!

Best for: Those who love a creamy, easy-glide kajal and don’t mind the extra setting step.
Downside: Tends to smudge without setting, especially in humid weather.

Price: Rs. 599 (often discounted on Nykaa)

3. Lotus Herbals Ecostay Kajal

If you’re on a budget and don’t want to compromise on quality, the Lotus Herbals Ecostay Kajal is a solid choice. It delivers nice, consistent colour and does a good job for everyday wear. It’s not the most dramatic kajal out there, but it’s reliable, affordable, and widely available. A great option when you just need a no-fuss kajal that gets the job done.

Best for: Budget shoppers and everyday minimal makeup looks.
Downside: Pigmentation isn’t as intense as the higher-end options.

Price: ~Rs.549

4. Faces Canada Eye Pencil

Faces Canada is one of those underrated Indian brands that quietly delivers really good products, and theirkajal is no exception. It works well, sits comfortably on the waterline, and is gentle enough for daily use. A great option when you want something affordable but from a reputable brand.

Best for: Those looking for an affordable, reliable everyday kajal from a trusted Indian brand.
Downside: Doesn’t come with a sharpener

Price: ~Rs. 399

5. Plum Kohl Kajal Black Brilliance

If you’re someone who cares about clean beauty, the Plum Kohl Kajal in Black Brilliance deserves a spot in your vanity. The texture is incredibly creamy and glides on without any tugging. It doubles up as both a kajal and an eyeliner, and the sharpener that comes with it is surprisingly good quality, it gives a perfect tip for precise application. On my oily lids, it lasted 6–8 hours without smudging or fading.

One useful tip: if the kajal has been sitting unused for a while and feels less creamy, just scrape off the top layer lightly and it’s good to go!

Best for: Vegan beauty lovers and those looking for a kajal that doubles as an eyeliner.
Downside: The pigmentation is very good but not quite jet black  I’d give it a 90/100 on that front.

Price: Rs. 495 (often available at a discount on Myntra & Amazon)

My personal go-to will always be the Revlon ColorStay – it’s worth every rupee. But if you’re watching your budget, the Sugar Stroke of Genius is honestly brilliant value for money.
